(April 21, 2020, Santa Barbara, CA.) For the first time in the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation’s 38-year history, PASF’s annual scholarship competition, which was scheduled to take place on April 26 at the Music Academy of the West, has been cancelled. The requisite auditions that were scheduled for earlier in the month were also cancelled due to the ever-changing restrictions on travel, gathering, etc. because of COVID-19. “PASF’s mission is to assist young musicians and it our first and foremost task each year. With that in mind, under these unprecedented circumstances, the Board of Directors of PASF has decided to send each applicant the equivalent of the ‘honorable mention’ award for each category,” Board President Deborah Bertling commented in her notice to this year’s 27 applicants.

Junior Instrumental Division applicants each received $500.00. Adult Instrumental and Vocal Division applications each received $1,000.00. In all, $21,000.00 was awarded to the aspiring musicians and vocalists, all students in Santa Barbara County. This year’s applicants who may be in their final year of eligibility (age 30) will receive an extension for 2021, should they wish to apply again next year.
